Rutgers University–New Brunswick is located 41 miles from New York City and 66 miles from Philadelphia. There are four major airports within 75 miles of the university. John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is approximately 50 miles from Rutgers–New Brunswick. Due to JFK’s location, you can expect to travel through high traffic areas. Uber and Taxi services are available from JFK in addition to GO Airport Shuttle and other airport pick-up services. You can also use rail services from JFK to New York Penn Station. Newark Liberty International Airport is the closest geographically (25.7 miles from Rutgers University–New Brunswick) and will provide the easiest access to campus. From other airports, you should expect to travel through high traffic areas.

There are three terminals at Newark airport: Terminals A, B, and C. From all three terminals there is an airport shuttle station on the concourse level called the AirTrain which provides easy transportation around the airport 24 hours a day and connects the three terminals to the NJ Transit train station and airport parking. Once you land, follow signs to "Ground Transportation" and "AirTrain." Be sure to pick up your luggage from the baggage claim before heading towards the AirTrain.

  • Terminal A – AirTrain stop is located on the concourse level between Gates A2 and A3
  • Terminal B – AirTrain stop is located on the concourse level between Gates B2 and B3
  • Terminal C – AirTrain stop is located on the concourse level between Gates C2 and C3

Once at the AirTrain platform you’ll have two directions to choose from. Be sure you get on the AirTrain headed towards the NJ Transit train station (may also be called Newark Liberty Airport Station). Once at the train station, you will need to purchase a train ticket to NEW BRUNSWICK. The cost of a one-way ticket from the Newark airport to New Brunswick is $15.25. The train line between the Newark airport station and the New Brunswick station is called the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor Line. Take the Northeast Corridor Line SOUTH towards TRENTON.

There are a number of Uber and Taxi services available from Newark Liberty International Airport. Expect to pay between $50-$75 for using this service.

NJ Transit

Northeast Corridor Line

If coming from the north (New York, NY) take the Northeast Corridor Line SOUTH towards TRENTON. If coming from the south (Trenton, NJ) take the Northeast Corridor Line NORTH towards NEW YORK.

Please note: not all Northeast Corridor Lines will make a stop in New Brunswick. There are signs that indicate what stops the train will be making on each platform. Be sure to get on a train that will stop in New Brunswick.

Transportation from the New Brunswick Train Station to Conference Location:

If coming from the north and headed south towards New Brunswick: There will be three exits from the New Brunswick train station platform. After exiting the train, walk toward the front of the train. Do not take the stairs down from the platform. Take the exit pathway that runs perpendicular to the train tracks which will take you passed the Gateway Center with the Barnes & Noble bookstore. At the end of the pathway, you will come to Somerset Street. Make a right and proceed toward the bus station on the corner of Somerset Street and George Street. Rutgers staff and signs will be present to assist with directions.

If coming from the south and headed north towards New Brunswick: After exiting the train, walk toward the front of the train and take the stairs down from the platform to George Street. Make a left and proceed toward the bus station on the corner of George Street and Somerset Street. Rutgers staff and signs will be present to assist with directions.

Conference Attendees Arriving on July 11 from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. and July 12 from 7 a.m. – midnight:

A Rutgers shuttle will pick up conference attendees at the bus stop on the corner of George Street and Somerset Street. The shuttle will make stops at the Livingston Campus (where the conference is being held), the Hyatt Regency, and The Heldrich hotel. The shuttle will run every 15 minutes.

There are a number of taxi cab services available to bring you from the New Brunswick train station to the Livingston Campus (84 Joyce Kilmer Ave). Expect to pay between $8 and $12 for the trip. Below are the names and contact information of preferred taxi services:

Amtrak

Northeast Regional Train Route

The Northeast Regional Train route offers service between Boston, MA and Newport News, VA with a stop in New Brunswick, NJ. See transportation from the New Brunswick train station to the conference location above for more details.

Acela Express Route

The Acela Express offers service between Boston, MA and Washington, DC with stops in New York, NY (Penn Station), Newark, NJ (Penn Station) or Iselin, NJ (Metropark Station) if traveling south or in Trenton, NJ if travelling north.

  • You can switch to NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line for travel to the New Brunswick train station from any of the stations above. See NJ Transit Northeast Corridor instructions above for more details.
  • You can use a taxi, Uber, or car service from these stations as well. The Iselin, NJ (Metropark) station will be the closest and least expensive if traveling south.

Shuttle Service to the New Brunswick train station will be provided from the conference hotels (Heldrich and Hyatt Regency) and Livingston Campus on Friday, July 15, from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please follow the directions below if you are flying out of one of the following airports:

By Train: From the New Brunswick train station, take the Northeast Corridor Line NORTH towards NEW YORK and get off at the stop for Newark airport.
